What to do in Cómpeta

Without a doubt, and after walking through its white streets and visiting the most characteristic corners and monuments that we have already mentioned in the section "What to visit in Cómpeta", we cannot fail to mention the numerous hiking routes, mountain biking or horse riding routes that we can discover in our Natural Park. You can get detailed information about these routes at the Cómpeta Tourist Office.

The Natural Park Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama was declared as such in 1999. With an area of 40,600 hectares, it is an impressive mountain massif that forms a geographical barrier between the provinces of Malaga and Granada.

In the former it is the highest part of the Axarquia region, in the latter it descends to the lands of Alhama de Granada. It is home to the Tejeda and Almijara National Hunting Reserve.

In Sierra Tejeda, the westernmost mountain range, the limestone is predominant, with some Eocene terrain formed by sandstone and marly limestone. Sierra Almijara, the largest and most easterly, contains formations based on dolomitic marbles that represent one of the main massifs of this type in the country.

It has the highest peak of the group with the emblematic summit of La Maroma at 2,080 metres.
