Church Nuestra Señora de la Asunción
The most emblematic monument in Cómpeta is the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. It was built in the 16th century in the central square of the village, Plaza Almijara, and its beauty lies in the 35-metre high neo-Mudejar style tower. This tower replaces the old minaret of the church, which was destroyed during the earthquake of 1884.
Inside the church, you can admire the frescos of Our Lady of the Assumption and the Baptism of Jesus, masterpieces by the Velez painter Francisco Hernández.
And after visiting the church, take a seat in one of the numerous bars and restaurants in the Plaza with its terraces around the fountain liven up the atmosphere.
